As you are all aware, tomorrow is the big day in Oklahoma. That’s the day that The United Horseturds have ordered their army of blood thirsty horse eaters to descend on the state capitol to show the world how badly they want to save all equines by slaughtering them by the thousands. They came up with this brilliant idea after a strong showing last week by people that were against slaughter. Nobody ever accused slaughterphiles of having an original thought. However, since they announced this gathering, they have had three changes of venues with the latter two still being widely promoted. Even better, they have made fashion suggestions for the 4 or 5 people that are likely to attend. They want you to put your boots and Billy Bob hats on to show those lawmakers how western you are. You know, because only cowboys have horses.
Meanwhile, in Washington DC, the real horse industry will make a move to end this ridiculous quest of the horse eaters once and for all. Tomorrow, Sen. Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, and Reps. Patrick Meehan from Pennsylvania, and Jan Schakwosky of Illinois will introduce the Safeguard American Food Exports (SAFE) Act. This bill seeks to ban the slaughter of horses for human consumption as well as the shipping of horses outside the country for the same. It differs from the original appropriations rider that defunded inspections for slaughter in that this will be a statutory ban and will not expire. That means no back room deals and shenanigans. If this is signed into law it’s all over for the slaughterphiles. It means not only will Slaughterhouse Sue not get have a horse torture chamber in every state like she dreams of, your friendly neighborhood kill buyer will be out of a job too. Ain’t karma a mean old bitch? (http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2013/03/save-the-horses-three-lawmakers-will-try-to-ban-slaughter-for-food/)
Regardless of how things shake out tomorrow, we can all prepare ourselves for some epic whining and an outbreak of butthurt from the PSAs. Don’t weaken. Should slaughter and shipping for slaughter end up banned, and we pray that it is, then the people that own horses will still be responsible to care for them. That means all the kill buyers with their over flowing feedlots will still need to feed and care for those animals. There are laws in place to ensure that they do. If they are so stupid to not see the writing on the wall with the European meat scandal, public outrage, and the looming EU deadlines, and are still buying up any and all horses through whatever means, then they deserve to be caught with their pants down. We are the 80% and in every other place other than D-bag Duquette’s world, that makes us the majority. The majority that will not stand for horses to be tortured and abused in slaughter houses. Stay tuned!
